JORBA Allaire 2009

Postby gt2brew on Thu Dec 31, 2009 8:19 pm

2009 was a year for the record books at Allaire. We started right out of the gate in March with a trail maintenance session that drew 57 volunteers for 228 hours in one day!!! It was very gratifying to have a Park Representative on hand to witness this turnout. When asked what trails we would be working on - I laughed and said “all of them”. A ride through the park left him thrilled with the results. He was also impressed by the number of volunteers who had traveled from outside our area.
April and May saw improvements to the Entrance, Blind, Steelman and Orange trails. We had a couple of issues during the month of June. First was a rather large illegally constructed stunt that was found by a member of the DEP. It was dismantled by an unknown individual(s) and the remnants were removed during our National Trails Day session. This pleased park officials, who were feeling pressure from the state. The second problem was 23 days of rain. As a result our scheduled tm session in June was a day of nick clearing. I am pleased to report that our nick work is proving itself and erosion was kept to a minimum.
The rest of our season was spent working normal tm items with the exception of October and December’s sessions. Tiger Woods needed more love than usual and we seized the opportunity to do some rock work on this trail. Yes folks, I said rock work.
We utilized some local stone to armor a few sections of the trail that were less than sustainable and made some really nice improvements.
To say that Allaire has a great following of volunteers is a vast understatement! 99 volunteers worked hard on the trails for a total of 1065 hours in 2009….another record!

Thanks to all of you for this outstanding level of support.
