Contents

[edit] Overview

An intricate system of marked hiking trails are available for the public to explore, some of which connect the Ringwood and Skylands sections of the park. These trails offer visitors opportunities to explore interior woodlands and rocky vistas.

Multi use trails are also available in the Skylands section of the park. These trails are suitable for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, cross country skiing and snowmobiling. Please obey all designated uses of the trails, posted at the trail heads and trail crossings. A 7.5 mile mountain bike loop trail begins in the Shepard Lake section of the park.

More information available on the NJDEP Website and WikiPedia.

[edit] JORBA Presence

Ringwood State Park and Ramapo Mountain State Forest are adjacent and many trails are maintained by JORBA's Ellen and Art White. Please contact Ellen and Art for more information and volunteer opportunities.

[edit] Maps

We have two variations of the Ringwood map: one is our legacy "drawn on a napkin" map (which is actually so good, we just can't dispense with it), and the the NEW super official map (created by RVCC member Georgette Riley).

[edit] Skylands Trail

This is the newest edition to Ringwood, completed in Fall 2008 at the IMBA TCC. This advanced trail designed to ride equally well in both directions, be warned it's chock full of rock features. It may be found by starting at the intersection of Ringwood-Ramapo Trail and Crossover Trail (Warm Puppy Rock) and continuing north on the Ringwood-Ramapo (red), Or from the top of the race course switch backs near the gas pipeline. Enjoy!

[edit] History

The present day Ringwood State Park consists of some of the original land and buildings of the once flourishing iron industry developed in 1740 by the Ringwood Company. Home for a succession of well known ironmasters for nearly 200 years, the estate passed to Abram S. Hewitt in the mid 19th century, America's foremost ironmaster.

Set among formal gardens, the Skylands Manor was originally built in the 1920's during the Tudor Revival period. Situated on 1100 acres, it is the focal point of the State Botanical Garden which overlooks the garden. The formal gardens are open to the public year round.
