Pay Dirt 2010 - Pay Dirt 2009

Pitch in and get rewarded for it! See Benefits below. Who won stuff in 2008?

[edit] The Benefits of Pay Dirt

1. Points for the H2H/Campmor Series:

Any racer competing in the H2H/Campmor series can earn points equivalent to 1 extra 5th place finish in the series. Racers must work a minimum of 10 hours (5 for juniors) of trail maintenance at a JORBA event*. These extra points can make or break those folks in the top positions of the race series, and its made second place finishers take the top spot due to the trail work they put in. Will this give you an edge on the folks that do not participate in trail work? You bet it does! However, this participation allows racers to give back to their sport and achieve a level of satisfaction only accomplished through trail work. You also help keep the trails "tip-top", and "what would we do without trails"? For race points, all forms must be submitted to the Paydirt administrator by October 1.

2. Give back and get stuff!

  • A Cannondale Scalpel donated by Cyclecraft will be raffled off to a lucky Pay dirt participant. How does it work? For each hour of trail work that you perform in the current season you get 1 chance to win a Cannondale Scalpel mountain bike. The more hours you give, the more chances you get. JORBA board and staff are ineligible for this raffle. For more information contact Brendan at Cyclecraft
  • A Cadillac cruiser bicycle w/ a Nu Vinci rear hub, donated by the Bicycle Hub of Marlboro has been awarded to Steve Fillipone (who accrued the most Pay Dirt hours in the current season). Thanks go out to Wally Tunison at the the Bicycle Hub of Marlboro for his ongoing support of Pay Dirt.
  • WTB 29er Tires (2 sets) will be awarded to other trail work participants with significant hour contributions (stay tuned on details).

Be a Pay Dirt Sponsor! Would you like to donate product to the Pay Dirt program? Your product will be given to the backbone of the sport: the volunteers that keep the trails flowing and sustainable.

3. Pay Points redeemable for Shop Discounts

The details are being hammered out but trail maintenance hours will count towards shop discounts. Stay tuned on exactly how that will work.

4. Improved Tracking and Online Reporting

Racers and volunteers: as long as you participate in a JORBA sanctioned volunteer event, you no longer need to send in an Individual Pay Dirt form, yahoo. With the chapters all using a standard sign in form (below), your participation will be tracked automatically. Now that should make some of you smile! The only exceptions to this will be non-JORBA events. If you participate in something in NY, NJ, PA and its not a JORBA chapter running the event, chances are they are not reporting their hours to us using the Pay Dirt Sign In Form. In that case you must get the individual Pay Dirt form (below) signed by an official.

In past years, the Pay Dirt standings were not available until the close of the race season. However, as part of the improvements to the system the Pay Dirt standings will be posted online on a regular basis (we are shooting for a monthly basis but remember we're volunteers! here :) ). Therefore, each time the standings are updated in the Pay Dirt tracking system, you'll be able to see the results here immediately.

Fine print: *If you perform trail work non-JORBA event, you can still earn Pay Dirt Points but a park official must sign your Individual Pay Dirt Form. Forms are available below. Forms must be submitted to the Pay Dirt Administrator before the end of the race series. Racers should carefully keep track of their Trail Work totals because, let's face it we're only human and you need verify that we're getting it right.

[edit] Pay Dirt Committee

Who runs this great program? Well, new for 2008, Pay Dirt will be a team effort performed by the Pay Dirt Committee. With all the changes entailed, it will take a team of dedicated volunteers to make this a success.

Pay Dirt Administrator - Ellen White: Ellen has been working with Pay Dirt for many years and this year she will have a direct role in Pay Dirt. Ellen will collect and keep a record of JORBA sign up forms, scan any hard sign up forms, update hours onto the spreadsheet, and publish it on the JORBA site.

Paydirt Evangelist - Jess Hoevermann: Jess have been active in JORBA, racing and socializing for many years. She's a pro on all levels here... so Jess will spread the word at races and events in order to publicize and evangelize Pay Dirt and the JORBA mission. Jess also doubles as a Development Committee and Bike Fest Committee member.

For more information on the Pay Dirt Program please email the Pay Dirt Committee.

Pay Dirt 2007 - Last Year's Standings

[edit] History

The idea originated in the mind of Wally Tunison and was implemented by Sarah Frost, JORBA's founder. Since Pay Dirts inception in 1996, the Pay Dirt Program has accumulated over 20,000 volunteer hours from both recreational and racing off road cyclists. In 2007, JORBA chapter volunteers accumulated 5500 hours of trail maintenance alone.
